Welcome, Survivor Sister!
I’m so glad you’re finally here. I am a proud Breast Cancer Survivor who turned my pain into purpose by becoming a Certified Life & Weight Loss Coach by the renowned Brooke Castillo, founder of The Life Coach School.
My breast cancer journey began in January, 2016, I was diagnosed with stage II, grade 3 , BRCA 2 mutated breast cancer.
I ran the full gamut of having a bi-lateral (double) mastectomy, reconstruction, tissue expansion, chemotherapy, radiation, DIEP flap reconstruction, nipple reconstruction, fat grafting, full hysterectomy, lymphedema and ongoing arimidex therapy.
One of the things that became very obvious and (that nobody had warned me about,) was the unfathomable treatment -induced menopausal weight gain that I experienced during and well after treatments ended.
I remember at my one year cancerversary follow-up appointment, I was gently informed that at 5′ 5″ and weighing in at 168 pounds with a BMI of 28.0 I was overweight and now officially at risk! And “that next to chemotherapy the single most important thing to prevent breast cancer recurrence was to maintain a healthy weight.”
I tried almost every weight loss tip and trick out there, to no avail. Apparently cancer treatment hormonal manipulated weight gain was very different and very hard to lose. So I researched and created a successful intervention survivorship program that utilizes a comprehensive approach, with anticancer dietary, physical activity, behavioral and hormonal modification components.
By moving research into practice I exited the physical and emotional weight gain rollercoaster, balanced my hormones and eliminated ALL of the side effects and am now enjoying the best years of my life at the optimal, sustainable weight of 130 pounds and a BMI of 21.6.
This can be your future as well.
I want to inspire my survivor sisters by being an example of what life can be post-cancer.
Join me in cultivating a growth-promoting, fun relationship that builds confidence and nurtures the kind of hope that open doors to sustainable change and results.
Together, we can make your survivorship some of the best years of your life.
I called myself "Frankenstein's Twin"
Because we connect breasts to our body image, sexuality and womanhood many of us feel that our femininity has been compromised by cancer treatments and daily living in a body that no longer looks or feels like ours. This can shake our sense of identity which then forces us to review how we see ourselves both physically and mentally. I found and teach that it is within our power to see ourselves through a brand new pair of lenses by nurturing a positive view of ourselves and redefining our beauty.
Cancer whispered in our ears, "You're not strong enough to withstand the storm". We whispered in cancers ear, "We ARE THE STORM."
After the worst of the breast cancer storm passes we are very often left with the confused collateral damage of wondering how to deal with our trauma, our self-worth, our future health. We wonder how to become resilient so that we can persevere in making wise decisions in our journey ahead. We get to choose to feel hopeful, grateful and joyful so that we can ultimately emerge victorious.
Prioritizing our health isn't an option
Many of us believe that genetics are the determining factor in whether we get cancer. But in fact, 90 to 95 percent of all breast cancer is caused by our environment and lifestyle. The everyday choices that we make, like connection, nutrition, mindset, drink, physical activity, toxins, rest and weight management create the environment inside the cells of our bodies to either stay healthy or turn malignant. Let’s make wise choices we get to live with.
The very real threat to our mortality
There are proven ways that we can reduce the chances of this kind of thing ever happening to us again. By implementing the synergistic seven components that I teach, we can naturally and sustainably influenced our own and biology in ways that can significantly reduce cancer recurrence risk and at the same time improved our quality of life.
The power of hope
Are you aware that by gaining more that 5 percent of your original weight during or after treatment-regardless of your initial baseline BMI (Body Mass Index) – increases the risk of recurrence and reduces survival 400 percent! I don’t share this knowledge to discourage you but to encourage you because there is a silver lining to this fact and that is, if you lose the weight you lose the risk. Knowledge is power and has the ability to reverse the tyranny of cancer recurrence risk.
My family is my main support system
Join me in cultivating a knowledgeable growth-promoting relationship that nurtures the kind of hope that replaces fear with confidence and motivates you to implement changes that will make the relationships with those you love, and those who love you in return, joyful, long and full of memory making activities.
